Bad times for taxpayers. After the tax catch-up on income which began on September 26 for 9.8 million tax households, time for payment of property tax. A tax which increased by at least 3.9% this year, following the revaluation of cadastral rental values. What’s more, 16% of municipalities have simultaneously raised their rate in 2024. And sometimes considerably, like Nice (+19.18%) or Saint-Etienne (+15%). Hence an exploding bill for certain owners, who must pay their property tax in the coming days.
But what are the dates to be respected so as not to be inflicted with a late penalty, equivalent to 10% of your tax amount ? If your property tax does not exceed 300 euros and you pay it in cash, by check or transfer, your “deadline” is set for Tuesday October 15 at midnight. A deadline which extends to October 20, i.e. 5 days later, if you pay your property tax on the tax administration website, impots.gouv.fr, or on the Impots.gouv mobile application.

A period of 10 days with the withdrawal at maturity
For greater simplicity and to save a few days of delay, you can opt for the deduction when your tax is due, which will be carried out by the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP) on October 25. If you have not already done so, it is still possible to join by going to your particular space on impots.gouv.fr. But don’t wait any longer, the deadline is this Monday, September 30. “After this period, your membership will only take effect from the next due date, you will therefore have to pay the current due date by another means of payment”warns the tax authorities. If, on the other hand, you take action today, your property tax payments will also be made automatically in the coming years, without any action on your part. Finally, note that this method of deduction is open to all taxpayers who are not exempt from property taxregardless of the amount of their tax.
