Who are precisely the multi -owners, holders of at least two dwellings, according to the definition chosen by INSEE in a study published this Wednesday, April 2? First, there are the “small” multiproprities and the “big”. The first are ultra-majority, 60% of multi -owners having only two dwellings. Holders of at least 10 dwellings represent only 3% of multi -owners. In addition, half of the multi -owners are women (49 %) but they represent only 40 % of those holding at least 10 dwellings.

A peak of multiple controllers around sixty

Multi -ownership increases by going south
Evaluated by the latter at 30,700 euros per year, the median standard of living in multiple drugs, which takes into account all the income of their household, is a quarter of a quarter of a single accommodation (25,000 euros) and half to that of non -owners (19,900 euros). On the geographical level, residents of the Alpine departments, ranging from Haute-Savoie to Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, and rural departments, from the south of the Massif Central at the Ardèche, are more often multiple: they represent a quarter of people aged 25 or more. Multi-ownership also increases according to a North-South axis. Thus, the departments of the North, Pas-de-Calais and Aisne have less than 16% of multi-owners. Multi-ownership is logically the weakest, at 12 or 13%, in departments of the lowest living standards, such as Seine-Saint-Denis and overseas departments.

What do the multiple owners do with all these accommodation? Outside the main residence, Six in ten multi -owner dwellings are rented. The balance is shared almost equal between second homes (23%) and vacant housing (20%). In this last category, 55% of goods have been empty for more than a year. These include goods received in inheritance and whose fate – sale or rental – awaits the settlement of the succession.
