The Turkish actor Can Yaman was chosen as Carlo Conti’s co-host alongside Laura Pausini in the first evening (Tuesday 24 February). This participation marks further recognition for Yaman, a well-established figure in the European television scene, capable of oscillating between dramatic roles and romantic comedies with great charisma and a transversal audience following.
Can Yaman, was born in Istanbul on November 8, 1989 from a family with roots in Kosovo and Macedonia. He is multilingual – he speaks Turkish, Italian, English, Spanish and German – and is passionate about sports, especially football, and supports Beşiktaş, one of the main Turkish teams. After graduating in Law from Yeditepe University, Yaman chose to abandon the profession of lawyer to dedicate himself to acting, turning a passion into a successful career that took him beyond the borders of Turkey.
His television career began in 2014 with small parts in series such as Gönül İşleri, İnadına Aşk and Hangimiz Sevmedik. The real leap in popularity occurred in 2017 with the role of Ferit Aslan in the soap opera Dolunay (Bitter Sweet – Ingredients of love), which guaranteed him wide notoriety especially in European countries and Latin America. Subsequently, he became famous throughout the world for his performance in the romantic comedy Erkenci Kuş (DayDreamer – The wings of the dream), with which he obtained the Golden Butterfly Award for best actor in a romantic comedy in 2018 and numerous other international awards.
In the following years Yaman consolidated his presence on the small screen with other successful projects, including Bay Yanlış (Mr. Wrong – Love Lessons), the Italian series on Canale 5 Purple like the sea alongside Francesca Chillemi.
His notoriety definitely exploded for his role as Sandokan, in the recent TV series produced by Lux Vide and broadcast on Rai 1. On that occasion he had answered some of our questions.
How did you prepare for this role? «A lot of physical training, but the most challenging dimension as an actor was the emotional and spiritual one. This Sandokan is more human, he takes a journey that also shows his fragilities, which make him a more contemporary character. Thanks also to the directors’ instructions, my Sandokan is lighter, has a face that conveys trust to others, communicates more empathy. For me it was an honor!
Was it difficult to pretend to be in Malaysia on a soundstage in Formello?
«We did like Emilio Salgari, the creator of Sandokan, who had never sailed in exotic seas and we were able to reconstruct distant worlds only with our imagination. And also thanks to the excellent Italian technicians.”
How did he get along with the young Alanah Bloor, his Marianna?
«It was her debut as an actress in a series, but she was very open to learning and absorbed every indication, a characteristic that as actors should never be lost. She was really very good!”.
In addition to acting, Yaman is known for his social commitment and for having been the protagonist of charitable initiatives, including projects to help needy children promoted by his charity organization. He was recently involved in a police operation in nightclubs in Istanbul, which led to the arrest of the actor, who was then released without criminal consequences. Several loves have been attributed to himreal (like the one with Dilletta Leotta) or presumed (with Francesca Chillemi, denied by the person concerned), and currently. After the breakup with the DJ of Algerian origin Sara Bluma is single.
