An emotional but determined Laura Pausini presented herself at the last press conference before the final of the Sanremo Festival: «Thirty-three years ago I won among the young people and I’m still leading the songs sent by the radio. It wasn’t obvious that there was still so much love for me.”
For the co-host it’s already time to take stock: «This Festival is a summary of many musical genres that tell of a writing that goes from a classic genre to a more modern innovation in sounds and arrangements. I think it’s important that Italian artists don’t forget the melody. Now the music in Spanish, with a more reggaeton rhythm, becomes internationally stronger. The same thing happens when there is a melody that comes from our past: even in Måneskin’s songs there are our own melodies. It is important to learn from our musical past and I find many references to all this even in young people’s songs. We heard historical songs performed by young people.”
After Sanremo, our thoughts turn to Eurovision and beyond: «For me, Eurovision was one of the best moments of my career. It was an interesting experience musically too. Instead, Sanremo is heart-pounding and, for me, the Sanremo prize is the most important of my career. I experience everything linked to this city in a profound and touching way. Being a presenter was a challenge, even though I have done similar things at events in other countries, and I did it for Carlo Conti, who I already miss. One thing I’ve learned through music is not to be afraid to dive in: I feel good when I learn something new.”
So, will the next step be artistic direction? «Even before this Festival I told myself that I would never conduct, and instead now I would always conduct. Elisa, if she liked it, would be very suitable for choosing the new songs. But whether it is a woman or a man, it must be a capable person, because it is a very difficult role.”
