Europe is more of an enemy than the Kremlin. Putin applauds, Musk, after his social network X was fined 120 million euros by Brussels for lack of transparency, states that “the EU should be abolished and sovereignty returned to individual countries”the White House encouraging sovereign countries so as to have a weaker European Union that is at the service of the USA from which it must buy weapons, goods and fuel. Enough, according to the USA, with the law. The Trump doctrine, on the other hand, does not want legal limits. The European Commission replies to the White House: «When it comes to decisions that concern the European Union, they are taken by the European Union, for the European Union, including those affecting our regulatory autonomy, the protection of freedom of expression and the rules-based international order».
It causes discussion document on American security which heavily casts doubt on the existence of our continent.
In the 33 pages of the document «Europe» occurs 49 times, «Russia» just 10. And if Moscow is no longer considered “a direct threat”, the White House’s hostility towards Europe is growing. Our continent, according to the document, should open up to the American market for goods and services, give up the fight against climate change to return to purchasing hydrocarbons from Americans.
An entire paragraph is dedicated to Europe to say that the Old Continent is in «economic decline» and has a «real and concrete» perspective of «cancellation of its civilization”.
And exactly Trump, who does not tolerate limits to his policies and continues by dint of executive decrees by sending the National Guard to cities governed by his political opponents, accuses Europe of lacking freedom. It attacks «the European Union and other transnational bodies that undermine political freedom and sovereignty, the migration policies that are transforming the continent and creating conflicts, censorship of free speech and repression of political oppositionthe collapse of birth rates and the loss of identity and self-confidence at a national level.” According to the White House “the continent will be unrecognizable in 20 years or less”. For this reason, while he continues to sell weapons to Europe and ask that the EU pay for military supplies for Ukraine, he fears the risk that some European countries may no longer be “reliable allies” of the USA for security.
Frontal attack then on Germany. Attack that reveals the real raw nerve of the Trump administration: relations with China. «The war in Ukraine», we read in the document, «had the perverse effect of increasing the external dependence of Europe, in particular of Germany. Today, German chemical companies are building some of the world’s largest processing plants in China, using Russian gas that they can’t get at home.” According to Trump, who is pushing to normalize relations with Russia as soon as possible to return to doing business with Moscow, as had already emerged in his first administration, he attacks “European officials who have unrealistic expectations for war”. And, while it wastes international treaties, weakens the United Nations, mocks and circumvents international law, it accuses Europe of “trampling on the fundamental principles of democracy to repress the opposition”.
The document must admit, however, that «transatlantic trade remains one of the pillars of the global economy and American prosperity. European sectors, from manufacturing to technology to energy, remain among the strongest in the world. Europe is home to cutting-edge scientific research and world-leading cultural institutions. Not only can we not afford to exclude Europe, but doing so would be counterproductive to the objectives this strategy aims to achieve.” And then the White House reveals its strategy: encourage «his political allies in Europe», i.e. «the European patriotic parties». Their “growing influence truly gives reason for great optimism.”
“Our goal,” writes the White House, “should be to help Europe correct its current trajectory.”
AND it’s no coincidence at all Orban, the most sovereignist of European leaders, applauds the American strategy which involves:
• Restore conditions of stability within Europe and strategic stability with Russia;
• Allow Europe to stand on its own feet and operate as a group of aligned sovereign nations, including assuming primary responsibility for its own defense, without being dominated by any adversary power”
• Cultivate resistance to the current European trajectory within European nations;
• Open European markets to US goods and services and ensure fair treatment for US workers and businesses;
• Strengthen the healthy nations of Central, Eastern and Southern Europe through trade ties, arms sales, political collaboration and cultural and educational exchanges;
• End the perception, and prevent the reality, of NATO as an ever-expanding alliance;
• Encourage Europe to act fight mercantilist overcapacitytechnology theft, cyber espionage and other hostile economic practices
From Italy, Defense Minister Crosetto responds with a long post on X: «Trump has made it clear that he doesn’t need the EU. Once the gifts from the USA are finished, we will have to take care of the defense”, he writes and then comments: «The United States’ competitor is China and in this duel Europe is not useful to Washington’s interests».
