Sylvie Vartan has dealt with many groupies with excessive behavior. But how did the singer and ex-wife of Johnny react when she discovered women in her bed?
Sylvie Vartan, who will give a masterclass at the Palais des Congrès in Paris this May 12, and Johnny Hallyday both saw their careers explode in the 1960s and experienced success at the same time. The two artists were therefore confronted together with fans exhibiting extreme behavior. And when singers came home late after giving concerts, they could happen to find women in their bed!
Sylvie Vartan: women in her bed… “It was crazy”
In the 1960s, although Sylvie Vartan had to deal with her share of fans with excessive behavior, it was above all Johnny Hallyday’s groupies who gave them a hard time, particularly in the evening after their concerts, when both discovered their hotel room invaded by young female admirers, some of whom even slipped into bed.
“It was crazy! But we were both very much in love and we had this crazy life multiplied by two. And at the same time, it was a discovery for us too, the fact that we interested so many people… We wondered why and it was completely excessive“, recalled Sylvie Vartan, invited to the microphone of Europe 1 a few months earlier.
Looking back, the singer, now 81 years old and who gave her last concert in January 2025 but does not want to completely stop her career, can play down: “It made us laugh at times. It became everyday life, we were caught in this sort of permanent whirlwind and we survived. It was incredible“.
Sylvie Vartan and Johnny: “Even when we were separated, he came to our house”
Although they divorced in 1980 after 15 years of marriage, the singer Like a boy takes a tender look at these years of love with the Taulier which she summarized with the Parisian with these words: “Youth, madness, passion, crazy love… And then David, it’s a lot “.
The years passed but Johnny and Sylvie Vartan, who recently attended Nathalie Baye’s funeral, never lost contact until his death in December 2017.Even when we were separated, he often came to our house, he really loved Tony (Scotti, his husband since 1984) and vice versa… He often spent time with us in Los Angeles“, she assured.
