The tree reigns over the living room during the holidays, whether natural or artificial. It is therefore impossible to botch your beauty look. Step by step, and in the right order, here is how to give him a pretty Christmas decoration… while avoiding the “Christmas tree” effect.

1. Take stock of your Christmas decor

Before decorating the tree, sort it out. Ask yourself what you really want: what style, what colors, what atmosphere. Also look at what you already have. If you’re recycling last year’s decor, just head to the attic or cellar. Otherwise, choose a clear theme. Once you decide, stay the course and only buy what goes with it.

2. Choose the right amount of supplies

There decorating a Christmas tree is something very personal. However, it is estimated that to generously dress a 1.80 meter tree, you need:

  • 1 light garland (equipped or not with a programmer),
  • 3 sparkling garlands,
  • about 40 Christmas baubles,
  • 20 to 25 Christmas themes to hang;
  • the rest of the accessories (battery candles, bows, traditional stars or fir tips).

For a more refined tree, opt for half of these accessories.

3. Prepare the ground

First of all, gather your decorations at the base of your tree, to avoid unnecessary trips back and forth. Check that your Christmas decoration, especially if it is a few years old, is intact and that your garland is working, otherwise change it. Depending on the size of your tree (and yours), consider take a step stool or a stepladder.

4. Install the light and twinkle garlands

Very often, the tree is attached to the wall, so there is no need to focus on the hidden part. Pass the light garland at the top, through this invisible area, to camouflage its wires. Drag it down, like a snake all the way down. The switch will be easily accessible to you. Count 10 meters of light garland for a 1.80 meter tree, 6 meters for 1.20 meter trees meter to 1.50 meters.

5. Place the baubles and Christmas subjects

There, we will have to fight against the natural “tendency” of the eye to focus on the middle of the object to be decorated. Arrange the balls in a staggered pattern, from top to bottomso that the decoration of your tree remains well balanced. Keep up the pace, move on to other small topics and fill in the gaps. Be careful, if you involve the children, the tree could be too busy at the bottom: a question of size!

6. Finish by decorating the top of the tree

Last step, and not the least dangerous: the star or point at the top of the tree. This is perhaps the most complicated. Take your time to place the final decoration. If necessary, use a stepladder or step stool. Optionalyou can flock your Christmas tree with the bomb. An operation to be carried out at the very end of its decoration, because under manipulation, the artificial snow would not hold.
