The home in which Diana Spencer has grown up can be rented for a wedding … at a price that is far from being within the reach of all budgets.
Getting married in a castle is the dream of many people, and there is something for everyone: medieval castle, remains of the Renaissance, small manor, huge palace … enough to satisfy all desires and all budgets. This is also a good way for owners of these areas to ensure the cost of their management. And if a historical figure or a celebrity has lived there, it makes it possible to increase the price a little more! This is how Lady Diana’s childhood house is found on the market for wedding rental places.
Lady Di grew up in Althorp House, in the center of England, a house that has belonged to the Spencer family since the 16th century. His brother, Count Charles Spencer, who is the current owner, decided to open it to wedding rentals, reports the Mirror. The Elysian Estates site, by which it is possible to rent it, specifies that it allows you to receive 140 people in the dining room, 200 in the living room, and 250 in the reception room. Up to 54 people can sleep there, and it is possible to enjoy the incredible outside the property. With one exception, however: it is not allowed to go to the grave of the mother of the princes William and Harry.
In addition to the extraordinary decor of this historic home, many options are possible: private chef, drinking services, helicopter transfers, pianist, fireworks, caterer, music, transport, animation, etc. Finally, it is possible to make care at the spa for the bride or her guests. A luxury service!
However, all this at a cost. And the Elysian Estates platform does not mention it, which suggests that it is particularly high. According to an estimate of Mirrorit would be necessary to pay a dozen thousand pounds per night. In 2013, Charles Spencer had been strongly criticized for having offered wealthy tourists to rent Althorp via a travel agency, for £ 25,000 (or 29,105 euros) per night. This is undoubtedly why he does not want the current rental price to be public, but it gives an idea of the kind of prices charged.
This is obviously not within the reach of all budgets, but people who are curious to see the place where Diana Spencer has grown can still take a look. The house can be visited every summer, of the 1er July to August 31, and profits are donated to the Diana association, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. In the summer of 2024, the prices were £ 27 (31 euros) for an adult and £ 16 (19 euros) for children aged 5 to 16 (free before 5 years) to visit the house and exteriors, and £ 20 (23 euros) per adult and £ 12 (14 euros) for 5-16 year olds to visit the gardens. It is already much more accessible!
