By the end of May, some of your exchanges can be used legally by a large private company. How to avoid it? We tell you everything.
Described by the European Parliament as a tool capable of “Reproduce human -related behaviors, such as reasoning, planning and creativity”artificial intelligence is more and more present in our lives, and will be led to develop in an exponential way in the years to come. OPENAI (Chatgpt) or Gemini from Google are already there, for better and for worse. A great tool when it is well used, to simplify tasks, analyze data, improve efficiency, it also has its reverse.
The American giant Meta, Facebook parent company, Instagram and WhatsApp, has been working for several months to develop its own artificial intelligence systems. It is in particular the famous little blue round that appeared on WhatsApp. This conversational assistant is able to chat with users and answer their questions about various subjects. And, bad news, it is impossible to delete it. The company announced last year its intention to use the publications and public photos of European Facebook and Instagram users for the training of its AI systems, including its Llama linguistic model. The project was first rebuilt by the Irish data protection authority (DPC), Meta’s head office in Ireland. But after some adjustments, a new step will be taken on May 27. And users of Meta applications must absolutely prepare for it.
From this date, Meta will indeed lead to its AI models on the interactions that people have with Meta AI, as well as on the public content shared by adults on Meta products. This therefore concerns both comments and photos of photos, but excludes private conversations and all data, private or public, accounts held under 18 years of age. Meta will contact its users via applications or by email to warn them, and they will fortunately have the choice to oppose them.
As the American group indicates in a press release, these information messages will also include a link to a form allowing people to oppose their data at any time in this way. Meta assures that this objection form will be “Easy to find, read and use“. It is accessible in the” Privacy Center “section on Facebook and Instagram. For WhatsApp, it is possible to access the online form directly on the Meta website. Whatever the platform, you must enter the email address associated with the account, and also the telephone number in the case of Whatsapp. You will then receive an confirmation email. Be careful, you must do this approach before May 27 that you have given your agreement!
