A new assessment will be implemented at the start of the school year in September 2025. In what matter and what will be the students concerned? We tell you everything.
Standardized evaluations are organized every year in order to find out the students’ achievements. They concern all children in school, from CP to 3rd, and they are also organized in the second and first year of CAP. From the start of the school year in September 2025, some students will be affected by a new assessment.
This system was initially set up with 4,000 students in September 2024 and, the next one, it will become widespread in all those who are educated in this level. The objective is to know the strengths and weaknesses of children in theory, in theory, to adapt teaching to these profiles. And this can be important, since a report written after the first experiment, which BFMTV was able to consult, indicates that 4 % of students presented difficulties in this matter, while 19 % had a satisfactory level. “Girls and students from the least favored social backgrounds have lower performance and more difficulties identified with each of the three tests of the evaluation”explains the Ministry of National Education.
So, what matter does this evaluation which is generalized at the national level? These are physical and sports education (EPS). Concretely, the students will pass three events relating to different activities: endurance, speed race and long jump. It is the teachers of this material who will be responsible for passing the evaluation to their students, and they are not delighted. The SNEP-FSU, union of EPS teachers, indicates that it has not been warned or consulted upstream of the announcement of the enlargement of the system. This will not concern all students, but only a level of college: the 6th.
However, there is a big difference with the other assessments that take place every year. Indeed, unlike standardized evaluations, it will not be compulsory, as announced by Elisabeth Borne, Minister of National Education, April 3, 2025, on France 2. “The practice of sport at school, something that we talked about a lot last year with the Olympic Games, makes it possible to fight against sedentary lifestyle”she said, while specifying: “This makes it possible to locate the level of the students, their possible difficulties and better support them. (…) What we see is that the students who have better results in sport also have them on the school level”.
