For this French station, it is the ultimate reward: it was decorated with the Versailles Prize, a high international architectural distinction. A prize organized for 10 years at UNESCO headquarters.
Cocorico: the most beautiful station in the world is French! Indeed, a few weeks ago one of our country’s stations was indeed rewarded with the prestigious Prix Versailles 2025 for its splendor and ingenuity. In competition with seven other stations around the world, it was awarded the highest international architectural distinction, in the “Stations and infrastructures” category.
Moreover, it had already previously won the Grand Prix National de l’Ingénierie. Two awards well deserved as the place is spectacular, as thousands of travelers can see. A huge central glass roof, 32 escalators, 16 staircases and no less than nine underground levels: the construction is breathtaking!
Built at a depth of 48 meters by the French architect Dominique Perrault, a specialist in metal constructions, this station is in fact an immense cylinder 70 meters in diameter which allows air and light to circulate, in particular thanks to its stainless steel construction, the flagship material of this absolutely grandiose construction. Thus, various effects of light and transparency enhance the space throughout the day. Thanks to this extraordinary device, especially in a station, travelers can see the sky as soon as they leave the train, thus limiting the feeling of confinement specific, for example, to the capital’s metro.
Located on line 14 of the Ile-de-France metro, and located in the Campus Grand Parc eco-district, it is part of the future Grand Paris Express network, and from the summer of 2026 it will house the long-awaited line 15 which should connect the Pont de Sèvres to Noisy in 2027, and the Pont de Sèvres to Saint-Denis by 2031. This is the station Villejuif-Gustave-Roussy, in the Val-de-Marne department.
Thus, it will very soon welcome no less than 100,000 visitors per day. In addition to being resplendent, the Villejuif-Gustave-Roussy station therefore promises speed, adaptability and practicality for everyone. His bet? Connect Villejuif to the capital in 20 minutes, and Villejuif to Orly airport in ten minutes too fast. When progress is good!
