A few words to entrust the sick to the protection of the Virgin. Pope Leo, in the Vatican gardens, prays, accompanied by suffering people, at the cave dedicated to the Madonna of Lourdes, he lights a candle and says: «Today on this day dedicated to the sick we want to pray in communion with all those who suffer in the world. We pray for you. I sincerely thank you for making this effort to come and accompany us in this moment of prayer, here in front of our mother, Mary, in his liturgical memory, Our Lady of Lourdes”.
And again, he adds, before having a Hail Mary recited and giving his blessing: «It is a very beautiful day that makes us remember the closeness of Mary, our mother, who always accompanies us and teaches us so much: what suffering, love, handing over one’s life into the hands of the Lord. So, we also ask the Lord’s blessing for you, for all the sick on this day and always, and for all those who accompany them: medical sciences, doctors, nurses, the many people who are close to us, especially in the most difficult moments.”
