The moment of the blessing
This morning, Monday 21 July, around 10.30, Pope Leone XIV visited the nursing home for the elderly “Santa Marta” in Castel Gandolfo. The pontiff was welcomed by the community of religious and, accompanied by superior, stopped in prayer in the chapel.
Pope Leone at the exit greeted individually about 20 elderly welcomed in the structureall aged between 80 and 101 years, and has retained in conversation with them and religious. After a greeting from a young nurse, and praying together with some songs, the Pope addressed to everyone some words, underlining some themes of the songs and taking up those of the Gospel read yesterday during the Mass.
The Pope underlined how inside each there is a part of Marta and one of Mary And he urged to grasp this time of life to live the dimension of Mary, listening to the word of Jesus and praying. He thanked for the prayer, “so important, much bigger than we can imagine” and added: “The age is indifferent: it is Jesus who wants to get closer to us, he is a guest for us, invites us to be a testimony, young or not so much benefitne “.
“You are signs of hope,” he concluded, “you have given so much in life” and “continue to be this testimony of prayer, of faith”, a family that offers the Lord what he has. After praying our Father together, the Pope held again a little more to visit the structure and returned to Villa Barberini just before 11.30.
