The American company BabyCenter has just published its ranking of the best first names for 2024: those for which American parents voted. Is your child’s favorite?
Most people have their favorite first name, often influenced by their culture, its meaning, or a simple sound that touches them. Some lean towards timeless classics, others towards modern first names, in tune with the times. Among these trendy first names, we can cite Ambre, Louise, Alba, Gabriel, Raphaël or Léo. The latter are also part of the first names expected to be fashionable in 2025 in France, according to the authors of The Official First Names 2025 (First editions). That’s what our experts in France say on the subject, but what are the preferred first names of parents elsewhere?
The American company BabyCenter looked at the subject again this year by publishing its annual ranking of the 100 most popular first names among parents across the Atlantic. The first two places are occupied by Olivia for female first names, and Noah for male first names. This was also the case during the previous edition of the ranking.
The 10 names for girls that find favor in the eyes of American parents are: Olivia, Amelia, Emma, Sophia, Charlotte, Isabella, Ava, Mia, Ellie and Luna. As for names for boys, parents’ favorites are: Noah, Liam, Oliver, Elijah, Mateo, Lucas, Levi, Ezra, Asher and Leo.
Concretely, this year, BabyCenter experts observed few changes, apart from the fact that the first name Ellie joined the top 10 female first names in the United States, just like the first name Asher for boys. The first name Ezra also gained a place. For female names, Amelia is now in second place and Emma is in third place. To obtain these results, BabyCenter analyzed the first names of more than 500,000 babies born in 2024 shared by their parents on the American site.
