“Whence Hay Música No Puede Haber is bad”or “where there is music there can be no evil”. This beautiful and shareable quote from Cervantes taken from Don Quixote will be the motto of edition number 36 of the Ravenna Festival, scheduled from May 31 to 13 July with the traditional and tempting autumn appendix.
The review, very rich in appointments, includes over 100 rising risers and the involvement of a thousand artists in the field of music, theater and dance. The part of the lion do the musicians as always, starting with the landlord, Riccardo Muti, on the podium of his Cherubini orchestra for the inaugural concert of 31 May with the Salerno violinist Giuseppe Gibboni (born in 2001, winner of the Paganini Prize in 2021) and a second concert in July.
In the following two days (1 and 2 June) Muti will guide you choirs of all Italy in lessons and tests on Verdi’s choral pages, an appointment part of Sing amantis esta review curated by Anna Leonardi and Michele Marco Rossi.
Among the directors invited to Ravenna there are the names of Zubin Mehta (with the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the violinist Amira Abouzahra) and Daniel Harding at the helm of the orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia. The Bizantimna Academy, which is at home in Ravenna, will dedicate an evening to the concerts for arches, violin and love viola of Antonio Vivaldi with director and soloist Alessandro Tampieri.
There will also be a lot of space for contemporary music and jazz.
The trio of concerts at Pavaglione di Lugo opens with the Italian first of The Passion of Octavius Catto of Uri Caine, followed by the appointment with Enrico Rava and Stefano Bollani and the one with Malika Ayane, for the first time in the “Symphony version” with the Orchestra La Corelli. Palazzo San Giacomo in Russi is the scenography of La Night of the Spiritual Jazz with Lakecia Benjamin, Hamid Drake and James Brandon Lewis and the long Irish night with Dervish, Derek Hickey, Mick O’Brien and Ciara Ní Bhriain and Birkin Tree.
Many appointments with sacred music in the Basiliche. The Festival commissioned a new sacred representation: Rut, collected of hope was composed of Marianna Acito on the booklet by Francesca Masi. The staging with a sacred theme also count the splendid cycle of seven cantata Our jesu members by Dietrich Buxtehude, entrusted to the Choir & Ensemble 1685 of the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Ravenna, with the visual project of the Academy of Fine Arts of Ravenna, while The Oratory San Giovanni Battista Composed of Alessandro Stradella for the jubilee year 1675 (already applauded at the Stradella Festival in Viterbo) it is performed by the Mare Nostrum Ensemble directed Das Andrea De Carlo. The 500 years since the birth of Gym they are celebrated in San Vitale by Tallis Scholarstogether with the ninety years of Arvo Pärt, and the vocal ensemble Odhecaton. Tallis, Odhecaton and Vocal Group Heinrich-Schütz will also take part in in Templo Domini.
Among the theatrical performances, among others, the Don Quixote to Ardero di Albe/ Ravenna Teatro, the Bhagavadgita at the great theater of Lido Adriano, the show by Marco Baliani of the silent courage) and Lisistrata by Marco Martinelli are scheduled.
This year it is up to the dance to conclude the summer program of Ravenna Festival on July 13, with the return of Les Étoiles. The gala edited by Daniele Cipriani for Ravennaè Pour Homme, therefore entirely declined to male with first dancers and soloists from the best international companies.
Entitled The Invisibil shows love, this year the Autumn trilogy (12-16 November) renew the lucky and applauded dialogue between Pier Luigi Pizzi and Byzantine Academy e Ottavio Dantone and is entirely dedicated to Händel, with two new set -ups of Orlando And Alcinato which is added the execution of the Messiah, in this case with Dantone at the helm of the Cherubini orchestra and the talented chorus of the cathedral of Siena “Guido Chigi Saracini”.
