Continues to arouse interest and attraction. Pier Giorgio Frassati, hundred years after his death, wins the young people of yesterday and today. The mountain was his passion. He scaled the peaks by going higher and higher. Strong. Robust. Nobody could imagine that in just six days – from the dawn of 29 June, the feast of his first name, to 4 July – a fulminating viral meningitis caused by the poliomielite probably contracted by visiting the needy of the poor neighborhoods of Turin, took him away. In the middle of the vigor, close to the degree, in the jubilee year of 1925 to which he had so much prepared, he died in Turin, at just 24 years old, one of the witnesses of the faith most loved by young people. Blessed by John Paul II in 1990 and with a canonization announced by Pope Francis who will be celebrated by Pope Leone on September 7, the “forever young” Frassati seems to continue to trace the road.
In these days the initiatives to remember it follow one another. And while the exhibition “Do you know Pier Giorgio?” On texts by Roberto Falciola and Antonio Labanca in collaboration with Medicor, a permanent finesian exhibition space is also inaugurated in Turin, in the premises of the former rectory of the church of Santa Maria di Piazza, the Parrocchia Frassati often went to the Eucharistic worship.
Among the many occasions to remember Pier Giorgio, many also in the Biellese, given that his family was originally from Pollone, where the young man had been buried before his body was translated to the Cathedral of Turin. And from Biella there are also games with which the schools participated in the exhibition called by the Italian Catholic Masters Association, on Frassati. In the photo the game of the goose And guess who, two of the works promoted by Valentina Di Natale, a religion teacher of Biella, with whom the school has joined the initiative.
To remember Pier Giorgio, moreover and continue to walk on his steps, 22 official paths dedicated to him, one for each region of our country, and some others in addition outside the official list, but in accordance with the CAI (Italian Alpine Club), have arisen in Italy. We went to visit that of Collelongo, the Marsica path, and to see the mural, inaugurated on May 22, dedicated to the next saint. In the number on newsstands a large service celebrates the anniversary of the future saint.
