Looking for a more natural laundry detergent? Why not make it yourself with this simple recipe. A good habit that you won’t be able to do without.
For a liquid detergent that respects your skin, the planet and even your wallet, homemade is the ideal solution. The recipe is easy and quite economical: making your own liquid laundry detergent is therefore accessible to everyone. Here are the ingredients and manufacturing steps to create your own effective laundry detergent:
The ingredients for 1 liter of homemade liquid laundry detergent
- 1 liter of water
- 50 g of Marseille soap flakes
- 1 tablespoon of baking soda
- 1 tablespoon of white vinegar
- essential oil (orange, lavender, eucalyptus, etc.)
- 1 empty 1.5 liter laundry detergent container
To avoid clogging your washing machine and your pipes, be sure to choose authentic Marseille soap, that is to say without glycerin.
Steps for making liquid laundry detergent yourself
- Boil water in a large saucepan.
- Add soap flakes.
- Mix over low heat until the shavings are completely dissolved in the water.
- Add baking soda, white vinegar and 10 to 15 drops of the essential oil of your choice.
- Stir well.
- Let it cool for about an hour.
- Pour the mixture into the empty container.
- Let it rest for a day before closing the container.
Please note: A cap or a small glass of detergent added directly to the drum will be enough to effectively clean your moderately soiled laundry.
Why is my detergent too liquid?
Note that homemade laundry detergent must have a thicker consistency than that found commercially. You will need to shake the detergent container before each use to make it less compact and easier to use. If the result of your recipe is too liquid, it is probably because the cooking step was not carried out correctly. Be patient and mix all the soap well into the water before adding the following ingredients. Also be sure to stir well. You can also check your proportions.
