It is estimated on average that a in ten women will make a miscarriage during her life. Some even do it several times and depending on the case, the symptoms are different from one woman to another. Bleeding and stomach aches may appear from the start of pregnancy, while for other future mothers, “stopped pregnancy” or miscarriage is said to be “silent”, without apparent signs. So many terms to designate the loss of a baby in utero, eagerly awaited by future parents. We met four women who have lived this painful experience. Virginie, Stéphanie, Emilie and Cassandra tell us what was most difficult for them.
Virginie, 7 and a half weeks pregnant, had an appointment with her gynecologist to better specify the start of pregnancy. “”During the first ultrasound, the embryo was too small to see well. A diagnosis of new confirmed in gynecological emergencies. “That day, I could no longer hold back my tears. I found myself alone in this waiting room filled with women with rounded belly …”
Stéphanie, already a mother of two children, was three months pregnant when she lost her baby in utero. At this stage of pregnancy, she had already started to announce the happy news to those around her. “”What was the most difficult was to warn all the people who had been informed, barely a few weeks later. And then, the drug treatment was a failure: the medical team finally succuled to remove the embryo“Explains the young woman, who has since given birth to her third child, now three years old.
Conversely, when pregnancies are not yet visible, almost no one knows. Result : “We have a little feeling of suffering in silence and at the same time, we want to keep it for ourselves”says Emilie, who saw bleeding around a month and a half of pregnancy. “”The return to work was quite complicated, no one understands why we were absent for a good week “she adds.
