Wedding photographers are there to immortalize an important event in the eyes of the bride and groom and their guests. And they would like everyone to get rid of this habit that complicates their work!
A wedding is an important moment in life, which we want to keep in our memory. So that everyone can have memories, couples often call on a photographer, or even a videographer. These professionals are used to immortalizing these events and each has their own style, so the bride and groom can find the one that suits them best.
The chosen photographer then has the mission of guiding them so that their wedding photos are successful, of inviting the guests to pose alongside the couple when the time comes, etc. His presence is a real asset for everyone: the bride and groom will know that the photos will be perfect, and the guests will also be able to have memories while having nothing to do and enjoying the event.
But it’s not as simple as that, especially since (almost) everyone has a smartphone equipped with a camera: a good number of guests are also shooting the wedding, much to the annoyance of the photographer present. In a video posted on TikTok, professional wedding photographer Scott Morey directly suggests that the bride and groom “rid” guests taking photos and videos: “You pay photographers and videographers to do a job. Let them do it.”
The reason guests taking photos is so annoying to photographers is because it prevents them from doing their job properly. On her site, photographer Tatyana Romanova explains that this bothers them because amateurs tend to stand in front of them or in the frame when they shouldn’t be there, that it distracts the subjects because they no longer know where to look in front of all these lenses, and that there will be phones instead of faces in the photos for which the bride and groom paid. Additionally, guests won’t enjoy the event and may never be in the photos, since they won’t be seated in their seats.
But we can also completely understand the enthusiasm of the guests, who don’t want to wait to have the wedding photos (if they receive them at all, the bride and groom don’t always send them)! So, if you want to take photos or film at the next wedding where you are invited, be very careful not to disturb the professional and wait until he or she has finished before taking a photo from the best viewing angle… And remember that living in the present moment without a phone in hand is also very important to enjoy it and have memories full of it!
