We’re not going to lie, the most economical and practical solution for getting around when visiting a city is walking; unless you are staying in New York, in which case it will be hard to see everything by walking alone. A recent study conducted by the language learning platform, Preplyrevealed the top 5 most walkable cities in France.
For this study published ahead of World Tourism Day on September 27, several criteria were taken into account by Preply to determine the walking distance between the five most popular tourist attractions in each major French city, using data from specialist sites Tripadvisor And Google Maps. This therefore allows tourists on the go to know in which cities in France they can easily do without a car or a public transport card.
So, what are the top 5? Grenoble – city voted as the most pleasant to live in the world a few months ago – takes 5th place, followed by Nantes. The bronze medal is awarded to the city of Rennes and the silver medal to Nîmes. Cities located in the four corners of the country which are therefore doing well. Good to know for a little family getaway during the All Saints’ Day holidays for example.
In first place, it is the city of Dijon which triumphs. It must be said that tourists who go to this large town of Burgundy can enjoy in just five minutes and 500 meters of walking – or 650 steps according to the study – the five tourist points to visit, namely the Parcours de la Chouette, the Museum of Fine Arts of Dijon, Place de la Libération, Notre-Dame Church and the Palace of the Dukes and Estates of Burgundy. In less than a day, there are cities that will do anything to make you regret not having come to visit them sooner!
