At just 2 and a half years old, Viktor was awarded the hero dog trophy for his exceptional performances in the detection of illicit substances. One of his finds even left the surveys speechless.
The expression “have flair” Takes all its meaning with Viktor says Binouze, a two -year -old male working cocker. At first glance, it looks like any dog and yet it is not. On April 2 in Paris, he was rewarded by the canine power station for his formidable flair, in the category “Illicit material search dog“During the 5ᵉ edition of the hero dog trophies. Indeed, Viktor is the first” working coccer “breed dog in France specializing in the detection of narcotics and tickets. He works alongside his master, the police Olivier Roussy, who is also head of service at the municipal police of Saint-Denis (93). And if he obtained this trophy.
Very quickly during his training, Viktor is distinguished by impressive qualities, to the point of surprising the investigators. Especially since the working cockers are rarely used for this type of missions. In barely 19 months of service, he posted an extraordinary record: “344 searches, 840,000 euros seized and more than 850 kilos of detected drugs”said the press release from the canine power station. Its main asset: its truffle which is almost never mistaken. Among all his seizures, one particularly marked the research and intervention brigade (BRI) with which he collaborated. The intervention in question took place in October 2023.
That day, Viktor was on a mission in the garden of a suspect. While the police team is advancing, he suddenly deviates from the group and marks a vehicle parked in front of the pavilion. In the jargon of investigations, when a dog “marks” an area, it means that he signals to his master that he has detected an odor that he was trained to recognize (drugs, explosives, tickets, human remains, etc.). On the spot, the investigators remain skeptical: for them, the drug is necessarily inside the house. Olivier Roussy trusts his dog, so he tries to convince his teammates to follow this new track. They end up opening the trunk and at the back of the vehicle and fall on 66.8 kilos of cannabis resin. A feat!
After this discovery, this young cocker spaniel discovered other fairly remarkable seizures. More recently, in April 2024, Viktor intervened during an operation carried out by the security of Seine-Saint-Denis for a case of counterfeits. He spotted several boxes among hundreds, containing a total of 190,000 euros in cash. A month later, at Orly airport, he marked a suitcase. A passenger was arrested and 2.4 kg of cocaine were discovered in backpacks for children. With such a flair, police and magistrates have a precious ally, and Binouze probably intends to use it for a long time!
