Every year, the American magazine “US News” establishes several country rankings. Among them, the top nations where life is good when you are a woman. Spoiler alert: this year again, neither France nor the United States appear in the top 10…
According to a report published by the UN in September 2023, 736 million women, or nearly one in three women, have already been confronted with sexual and/or physical violence at least once in their life. An edifying figure which allows us to realize that the simple fact of being a woman causes insecurity to skyrocket. The proof is that there are even rankings that list the countries where it is good to live as a woman…
Among them, that of the American magazine U.S. News which, this year again, does not decorate France. And for good reason, France appears neither in the top 10 nor in the top 15, and only arrives in 17th position in this top. To believe that it is better to be a woman among our Belgian neighbors who take 11th place, just behind Germany.
To draw up such a ranking, the experts looked in which places women were the most fulfilled and the most secure. They also relied on the country’s progressivism, and on gender equality, particularly in the world of work. Result: if the Latin countries struggle to find a place in this top, the Scandinavian countries stand out from the crowd. Not surprising since the study proves that societies where women do well are more peaceful, more democratic, more prosperous, more egalitarian, and more inclined to adapt to global warming. The very definition of Scandinavian countries in short!
The Netherlands therefore comes in fifth position, closely followed by Finland. In third position, we find Norway where women hold no less than 46% of seats in Parliament. Moreover, the country also offers 49 weeks of 100% paid parental leave. It was Denmark who won the silver medal, even though they came first last year.
Finally, the country which climbs to the highest step of this 100% European ranking is none other than Sweden which, in politics and in business, has fully integrated the principle of parity. And women assure us: they feel completely safe when they walk in the street. Dear France, take advantage!
