Does your skin seem to age faster than expected? The problem may not come from your cosmetics, but from what you eat. A daily food, widely consumed in France, would promote wrinkles and dull complexion.
Does your mirror surprise you sometimes? These wrinkles that set up, this less bright complexion … Before changing the cream or skincare routine, it may be better to see what you put on your plate. Because today, dermatologists and nutritionists repeat it: food plays a key role in skin health. Certain foods protect it and slow down signs of age. Others, on the contrary, precipitate them. And among them, a current food is particularly problematic: white bread.
Present at almost all meals, it seems harmless. However, consumed regularly, it promotes skin aging. “”Too much sugar can actually cause early aging of the skin“Recalls Dr Valentina Bänninger, dermatologist, in an interview with our colleagues from 20 minutes.
For what ? Because white bread quickly increases blood sugar. This triggers a strong secretion of insulin, which in turn leads to low grade inflammation in the body. And the skin directly undergoes the consequences. This persistent inflammation weakens the collagen and elastin fibers, essential for firmness and skin elasticity. “”The fibers of the skin tissue caramelize. Glucose molecules bind directly to collagen and elastin fibers“, Explains the dermatologist. This process, called glycation, stiffens the tissues. Result: the skin relaxes, wrinkles appear faster, the complexion becomes dull.
Fortunately, there are much more favorable alternatives. Dr. Bänninger recommends breads made from whole cereals, rye or sourdough. Their glycemic index is lower, which limits blood sugar peaks. They are also richer in fiber, B and mineral vitamins, which support skin health.
Changing bread may seem trivial, but the effects are visible. In a few weeks, the appearance of the skin can improve. And if this change is accompanied by a diet rich in antioxidants, omega-3 and vitamins, it becomes a real anti-aging gesture. Simple, but formably effective.
