According to the latest ranking published by the Internet user, the Bouches-du-Rhône rank as the most dangerous department in France after Paris. This ranking is based on official police and gendarmerie statistics, by reporting the number of crimes and crimes to the local population in 2024, an expressed rate for 1,000 inhabitants. With 165,136 offenses identified for just over two million inhabitants, the department has a rate of 79.78 per thousand, just behind the capital, which culminates more than 116 per thousand inhabitants. Among the other most dangerous departments, Seine-Saint-Denis climbs in third place, followed by the Rhône, Hérault, Guadeloupe, Alpes-Maritimes, Guyana, Val-d’Oise and finally the Pyrénées-Orientales which completes this Top 10.
Conversely, among the safest departments in France, Cantal records that 26% cases per thousand inhabitants or 3,777 cases for the year 2024. The inhabitants of Lozère, Aveyron, the Manche, the Haute-Loire, Dordogne, de la Creuse, de Lot or Vendée are among the luckiest in terms of tranquility in their department.
