Single without children, the client had just purchased this spacious 90 m² apartment. It consisted of two bedrooms and a large reception area: living-dining room of 34 m². She wanted to keep both bedrooms: one for herself and the other for guests. Her family lives far away – her mother in particular – and she likes to receive them. The only modification she wanted was to install the kitchen in the living room and use this room to make her office. Well, that was the initial brief, but there was a last minute change. “During the construction, the client told me that she was pregnant. What was initially supposed to be an office had to be changed to become a baby’s room”Maïa Descombes tells us. And it wasn’t easy, because the room was small (7.43 m²), so we had to use trickery to find an additional square meter. The trick, found by the professional, was to block the garbage chute, which took up a lot of space, after asking permission from the co-ownership of course.
Review traffic for more fluidity
With these changes to the plan, Maïa Descombes completely revised the location of the doors for greater consistency. For example, the bathroom, adjacent to the master bedroom, had two accesses, one for each bedroom, it is now only accessible from the master bedroom. It is glazed to take advantage of the light passing through the two rooms. The kitchen, which has become a baby’s bedroom, now has its door facing that of the guest bedroom. By blocking the initial door opening onto an unused hallway, the architect was able to create a laundry room. Each square meter has also been optimized to add storage. The entire decoration has been redesigned. In each room, color has been added to create an atmosphere and provide contrast when it is on part of a wall. Many with green, which is the client’s favorite shade. The architect knew how to put it everywhere without it being too heavy. With these transformations, the apartment gained light by playing on the through side. He is also much warmer. An ideal place to welcome the future baby and guests.
