As the 98th Academy Awards approach, this very popular French actor could lose the record he has held for 14 years…
Every winter, it’s the same thing: the world of cinema distributes its awards during major ceremonies and, the most anticipated, is obviously that of the Oscars. It will be held on March 15, 2026, in Los Angeles. Focus on the Best Actor category, in which… a Frenchman holds a record that dates back (already) to 2012.
Indeed, that year it was the actor Jean Dujardin who received the Oscar for Best Actor for the film The Artist. A few weeks before, he had already won an award, that of Best Actor in the comedy or musical film category at the Golden Globes. A double… which has not been beaten since 2012! Indeed, the winners of the Oscar for Best Actor almost systematically come from the “drama” category of the Golden Globes, such as Cillian Murphy, Brendan Fraser or Will Smith recently.
This year, Timothée Chalamet could finally do this double. Indeed, the young actor, now 30 years old – Franco-American – won the 2026 Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Film for the feature film Marty Supreme. And he was nominated for the same film in the Best Actor category at the Oscars.
Furthermore, Jean Dujardin also holds another unbeaten record. That of the double Best Actor Award at the Cannes Film Festival then Oscar for Best Actor for the same film. An extremely rare feat because, before him, we have to go back to cinema legends like Jon Voight (Coming Home1978) or Ray Milland (The Lost Weekend1945).
Despite his American awards, Jean Dujardin did not want to pursue a career in Hollywood despite small roles in films. The Wolf of Wall Street And Monument Men. And he fully assumes it. “I didn’t belong there. It was nice, but we don’t have the same approach, we don’t have the same culture. What I am going to tell you will seem French to you, but to put it simply and without any political connotation: I am French!“, he declared in an interview for Evening mag.
