A dinner a little too generous, a part of too much cake or an overflowing aperitif: these differences are part of life. But should we really blame yourself as soon as we go beyond the limits? For Doctor Pierre Dukan, just react at the right time.
In a recent Instagram video, the famous nutritionist delivers a clear explanation: what we do right after an excess is crucial. It is not a question of feeling guilty or fasting the next day, but of understanding the functioning of the body in order to adopt the right reflexes.
When we consume a meal rich in carbohydrates, sugars quickly pass from our plate to our blood. “In the hours following the meal, these carbohydrates are quickly digested and arrive in the blood in the form of glucose”explains Doctor Dukan. According to him, if we intervene during this short period – before insulin does its storage work – it is possible to prevent this glucose from turning into grease. He recalls that the more we take a long time, the more the storage process intensifies: “The glucose which has risen in the blood leads to the secretion of insulin which transforms it into fat.” After a certain delay, circulating fatty acids gradually sink into adipose cells. And there that it gets complicated.
The specialist warns: “These fatty acids will go towards the adipose cell, enter it through the meshes of its membrane. Once in the cell, these fatty acids will group together by three and be stapled by a glycerol unit to form a triglyceride molecule. “ And once this transformation has been made, fat is no longer temporary. “The superficial fat of the beginning has become a deep fat much more difficult to reach and burn.” It is therefore a real time trial that starts as soon as you finish an too sweet or too fatty meal.
According to Doctor Dukan, there is an action window not to be missed: “The ideal measure to avoid weight gain is to burn the gap until it is in the form of glucose, that is to say within two hours of the gap, while it is in the blood”. After this period, it will be necessary to provide much more effort to eliminate the already trained fat. More specifically, he recommends walking 25 minutes just after a too rich meal.
The idea is not to fall into the opposite excess or to establish rigid routines, but rather to know this mechanics to better anticipate it. And for that, no need to go run a half-marathon or fast for three days.
