In search of movement for this school year 2025? If you like lightness and relaxation, this original discipline and very popular at the moment will please you.
Improving your physical condition without leaving a lung to it is possible: this physical activity is proof. Please note, after reading, you will want to register!
The reasons to succumb to it? The exercises make it possible to tone the whole body. The practice constantly engages the abdominal strap, strengthens the deep muscles, relaxes the joints and improves flexibility. All, gently and without impact. In addition to her physical benefits, she also acts positively on the mind. Perfect for avoiding everyday overload and starting the year on the right foot. However, like any physical activity, the results depend on the regularity of practice and personal commitment. The antigravity yoga (understanding “anti-gravity yoga” in French) was developed in the United States by the gymnast and choreographer Christopher Harrison. At the time, after an injury, he discovered that exercises and postures are easier to perform in the air.
In 2008, Florie Ravinet was inspired by this air yoga and created its own method in Europe. She develops this sport with a team of physiotherapists. The principle is simple: practice yoga in a suspended hammock, about one meter from the ground. During the sessions, you alternate between ground movements and air postures. If the approach seems attractive, it still takes a time of adaptation to control balance and tame the sensations. Again, the method makes it possible to stretch the body and the column as a whole, and especially without impact. “The hammock is an additional support that allows us to access inversions, to put them within the reach of the greatest number,” explains Sarah Bellagamba, yoga and antigravity teacher at Blanche, in Paris. However, some people may feel nausea or dizziness during the first sessions, while the body gets used to inverted positions.
The courses are accessible at all levels, but there are some contraindications, especially for pregnant women, people with heart problems, hypertension or glaucoma. It is also not recommended to practice aerial yoga within six hours of an injection of Botox. For the rest, if you are not afraid to find your head down, go for it! However, keep in mind that this discipline requires a certain financial investment, with sessions which generally cost between 20 and 30 euros, a higher price than traditional yoga.
