Even without having worked, it is possible to receive retirement aid. Payed by the State, it guarantees a minimum income for the elderly to too low resources.
There are those who spent decades to get up early, chain the working days and contribute to prepare their retirement. And then, there are those who have never worked in their lives, whether by choice, to take care of children, by prevailing or for health reasons … But then, what happens to the latter? Is it possible to receive a retirement when you have never had professional activity, nor paid a euro of contributions? The question often comes back, as the idea of old age without worried resources.
The answer is due to specific aid, provided for the elderly with modest, even non -existent income. It is not a retirement pension itself, but a monthly service intended to ensure a retired minimum. Even without having contributed, it is therefore possible for some to benefit from it, provided you meet several criteria. This allowance is called ASPA, for solidarity allowance for the elderly. Of course, people who did not need to work because they were comfortable is probably not affected, but there is a good chance that people unemployed for several years meet with a small pension.
Thus, in 2025, the maximum amount of the ASPA was 1,034.28 euros per month for a single person and 1,605.73 euros for a couple. To be entitled to it, you must be at least 65 years old (or from 62 years of age in the event of incapacity at recognized work) and reside in France in a stable and regular manner. The main condition concerns resources: income must not exceed the ceilings corresponding to the family situation. For a single person, the ceiling is set at 1,034.28 euros per month, or 12,411.44 euros per year. For a couple, the ceiling is 1,605.73 euros per month, or 19,268.80 euros per year, which guarantees that help compensates for low resources to these thresholds.
The ASPA request is made directly from the pension fund, even if you have never worked. The form is available online on the retirement insurance website, from the town hall or the municipal social action centers (CCAS). The file must be accompanied by proof of identity, residence and resources. Once accepted, the payment is made every month. This aid remains recoverable on the succession beyond a certain threshold, but it constitutes an essential security net to live with dignity without retirement without having contributed.
