However, for families, it is essential to remain financially stable and avoid the stress of difficult ends of the month. But you still need to know which supermarkets have the lowest prices. The consumer association UFC-Que Choisir took up the challenge by calculating the price differences of 6,000 supermarkets with drive-thrus in different French departments. They delivered their conclusion on October 12, and noted “significant price differences depending on the departments”, can we read in their investigation. Among the 101 departments in France, there is one in particular that stands out since it is there that shopping is the least expensive in France. This is Deux-Sèvres, a department in the Center-West, followed by Côtes-d’Armor. “Loir-et-Cher and Vendée are tied on the third step of the podium”, say the specialists. Overall, consumers from Brittany to Center-Val de Loire, via Pays de la Loire and the north of New Aquitaine, are the best off compared to the rest of the country. Prices there are on average 3% cheaper.
To the question: which is the cheapest brand? UFC-Que Choisir noticed that E.Leclerc and Système U “are less expensive than their competitors”. We also find many of them in Brittany, Pays de la Loire or Centre-Val de Loire. Conversely, it is better to avoid small local shops if you are on a tight budget, because “the prices are significantly higher there. Carrefour City are 11% more expensive than Carrefour hypermarkets, and Intermarché Express 10% more expensive than the group’s hypermarkets”, details the consumer association.
