He was tired of seeing his cats bored, so this American created spaces for them worthy of a feline amusement park. But his project extended beyond the confines of his household.
We all know the traditional cat tree that sits in a corner of the living room, often wobbly and covered with an unattractive carpet. For most owners, this is the pinnacle of feline comfort. But for others, their love of animals doesn’t stop at a simple sisal rope post. Imagine for a second that your interior is no longer just yours, but a huge playground where every square centimeter has been designed for the well-being of your four-legged companions.
This is the slightly crazy project that Alan embarked on. At home, the decoration does not reflect decorative trends, no, everything has been designed to respond to the primary instincts of his beloved cats: climbing, observing, hiding and exploring. From the shelves that snake along the kitchen walls to the suspended walkways hovering over the bathtub, circulation is no longer just on the floor, but in three dimensions. A real aerial labyrinth that transforms everyday life into a permanent adventure. “We cat-ified the whole house!”he exclaims.
Initially, Alan wasn’t looking to become an Internet star. He simply wanted to give his cats access to the outdoors without the dangers of the street. While observing his felines melancholy scanning the garden behind the glass, he had a revelation. He then began to build complex structures, screened and secure extensions connecting the interior to the exterior.
This is how Alan became the “CatioGuy”. By creating these famous catios – fully enclosed and designer cat patios – he discovered a vocation. What was just a DIY project for his own animals has become his full-time job. Today, he designs and manufactures custom spaces that radically enrich cats’ lives while integrating seamlessly into the architecture of their owners’ homes.
And you, would you be ready to break through your walls to offer such freedom to your furry companion? If the idea appeals to you, know that cat-friendly design is much more than a fashion: it is a new way of cohabiting with our little living room tigers.
