Car flights are going upwards, and thieves have new well -established methods. However, an almost free solution, present in all kitchens, allows you to stop them.
With the generalization of connected cars, the flight of vehicles continues to increase. Indeed, unlike action films where thieves force locks, new thugs operate at a distance, contactless. In other words, the fault is often in the keys themselves. The so -called “hands -free” models, which open or start the car without inserting a key or pressing a button, work with radio signals. The concern? These waves can be hacked. Thieves then have to capture and reproduce the signal to make the car believe that its owner is there.
This type of flight, called “key hacking”, requires neither violence nor intrusion. Two people are enough: one is placed near the front door of a house with a signal amplifier, the other near the car. The device captures the waves of the key inside the house and transmits them to the car, which opens … then starts. To protect yourself from it, some experts recommend the purchase of a specific accessory: the signal blocker. These pockets, often lined with a metal fabric, block electromagnetic waves. But they are not always cheap, or known to the general public.
Good news, a homemade tip can just as well do the trick: “If you cover your key with metal, such as aluminum foil, or store it in a closed metal box, this will block the signals”, Tells Lucy Lewis, a Tiktok user followers of technique. So yes, the trick is far from high-tech. She is even a bit tinkered with. But it works. Aluminum cuts the signal, blocks communication between the key and the vehicle, and makes the hacking ineffective. Of course, it will be necessary to remove aluminum foil when you want to insert the key into your vehicle to start. Again, aluminum will cut any signal, preventing the start -up of your car.
Anyway, you will understand, with increasingly connected cars, but also more and more vulnerable, this kind of solution, as artisanal as it may be, could well make the difference. And for less than one euro, difficult to make more profitable.
