The change of season is often an opportunity to take care of your car. Before spring, a very simple maintenance action can make the difference in preserving the bodywork and limiting scratches.
Maintaining your car is not limited to refueling or going through a technical inspection. Throughout the year, a few regular checks help preserve the vehicle and avoid costly repairs. Checking tire pressure, monitoring the oil level, checking the coolant and even the condition of the windshield wipers are some of the essential reflexes. Many motorists take advantage of the changing seasons to carry out small maintenance. After winter, this step is even more useful to prepare the car for spring conditions.
At this time of year, a simple but often overlooked gesture can make a difference. It helps protect the bodywork and windows, while reducing the risk of micro-scratches which sometimes appear when cleaning your vehicle. This reflex becomes particularly useful when sunny days return and cars remain parked outside.
Because in spring, a well-known phenomenon makes a comeback: pollen. These fine particles released by trees and plants are quickly deposited on the bodywork and windows. Their surface may be slightly rough. As a result, when you try to remove them by wiping the car with a dry cloth or by operating the windshield wipers, these particles can cause small scratches on the paint or leave marks on the windshield. In addition to tarnishing the appearance of the bodywork, pollen can also become embedded in certain surfaces if the car is not properly protected.
To limit these inconveniences, car maintenance specialists recommend waxing the bodywork before the arrival of spring. This layer of wax acts as a protection and prevents pollen particles from adhering directly to the paint. The wax can be applied by hand with a microfiber cloth or a specific applicator after carefully washing and drying the car.
A few precautions also allow you to obtain a better result. It is best to wash the vehicle in the shade to prevent water or products from drying too quickly on the bodywork. The wax should then be applied in circular motions, before being buffed with a clean cloth. Repeating the process once or twice during the spring can help maintain protection. This small maintenance gesture, carried out at the right time, helps preserve the shine of the paint and facilitates cleaning of the vehicle throughout the pollen season.
