Over time, you may have noticed that your hair is losing vitality. There is indeed a solution to restore density and shine: a hairdresser reminds us of this simple tip.
Protection and revitalization: from the age of 50, hair needs these two actions. For this, a hair routine is essential. At the risk of disappointing you, a good shampoo is not enough. There is an often forgotten gesture that has the superpower of stimulating your hair. Are you already doing this? Let’s see that.
“Over time, hair loses elasticity, becomes drier and sometimes thinner” explains Raphaël Perrier, artistic director, four-time world hairdressing champion (coach of the French team) and founder of the eponymous training academies and hairdressing salons. The solution? Perform a scalp massage, in addition to a nourishing routine and gentle coloring (if you color your hair). In fact, this gesture stimulates blood circulation, as well as the sweat glands (which create sebum). It also helps with relaxation and prevents falls. Results: your hair grows and your roots strengthen.
Here’s how to do it: “you can massage your scalp dry. If you choose to use an oil, choose nourishing vegetable oils such as castor oil, jojoba oil or lavender essential oil. They have stimulating and nourishing”, specifies the expert. Of course, the massage can be performed in the shower, during your shampoo or while applying your treatment (this at least allows you to wait). As a bonus: if you have a caring partner, don’t hesitate to ask them for a little head massage (while you’re at it).
Now for the technical part: Raphaël Perrier recommends using your fingertips and making circular movements. The ideal is to start at the bottom of the skull, and gradually work your way up to the top of the head. Do not apply too much pressure (just enough to stimulate circulation). To limit your strength, a special scalp massage brush is an excellent option.
These actions should be performed 2 to 3 times a week, allow 5 to 10 minutes per session. For those who have a dry scalp or fragile hair, it may be beneficial to use serums or oils specifically formulated to nourish and strengthen your hair after the massage.
