This tip will save your day at the hotel, your electronic devices will thank you

You may have already been fooled: you left your hotel room for a while, taking your room card with you and leaving your electronic devices to charge so that the battery will be full when you return. The problem? You forgot one detail: the electricity only works in your room when you insert your hotel card into the box.

You may have had the experience of hoping to charge an electronic device, like your smartphone, only to discover that charging hadn’t happened because your room card wasn’t inserted into the case! On TikTok, an Internet user revealed that she even almost missed her plane because she thought she had charged her cell phone, even though the power was not activated.

But did you know there was a way to bypass this system? A TikTok user named Linda, a fan of low-budget travel, gave a tip for being able to plug in your electronic devices without needing to insert your hotel card into the box provided for this purpose, which would allow you to be away from your room while charging your devices.

In a video posted on the social network, the TikToker revealed that it was possible to insert any other card into the box so that the electricity was turned on! If the globetrotter took the example of a vital card, she still specified that “any card would do“.

So, if you are worried about leaving an important card in your room unattended (especially since the housekeepers may be instructed to throw it away if it is not the room card hotel), you can simply insert the loyalty card of a store that you no longer go to or an old card that you would not have thrown away but which would no longer be of any use to you.

In the comments of the video, some Internet users even specified that a simple piece of folded paper could, a priori, do the trick. Be careful though, this method works in most cases… but not always! There are some hotels in which only the room card can activate the power. It’s up to you to take the test!
