To immortalize their wedding in photos, couples sometimes think big. Generally, most brides and grooms hire a professional photographer, who takes the photos not far from the ceremony location, outdoors, in a park or in the gardens of the rented property, and even indoors. And then there are the other couples who opt for a completely different, more atypical setting, which allows for unique photos.
This was the case for the wedding of Mikaela and Mitch, a couple who wanted to get married at the top of the mountain in Whistler, Canada. One of the most famous in North America, which is also linked to the history of the First Nations of Canada. For the occasion, they enlisted the services of wedding photographer Tara Lilly, aka @taralillyphotography on Instagram. A choice that they certainly do not regret at the moment… Because one of the photos was awarded as the most beautiful wedding photo of the year, by the International Wedding Photographer of the Year jury.
Since 2017, this competition has rewarded the most talented wedding photographers in the world every year. On December 1, the winners were revealed and it was the work of Tara Lilly who won first prize. The selected photo, which you can see in the Instagram post, illustrates a rather surprising scene between the bride and groom, Mikaela and Mitch.
“Just as Mitch began to take his vows, a curious whiskey jack (the Canadian Bluebird, editor’s note) burst in and landed directly on Mikaela’s head. Mikaela’s shock, surprise and laughter were not enough to dissuade this bird from its perch. ‘I’m Snow White!’, Mikaela laughed.”explains photographer Tara Lilly. An unexpected interruption which had the merit of offering the newlyweds unforgettable photos.
