Each of its ingredients plays a very specific role.
Cold season is in full swing. This is the time to hydrate well, rest, renew the indoor air regularly and wash your nose with physiological serum, a spray of thermal water or sea water. Cold symptoms disappear spontaneously in 6 -7 days, or even less with this “anti-cold” drink, developed by Barbara O’Neill, internationally renowned naturopath, well-being educator and author of numerous books on natural remedies.
Tested and approved by thousands of users, this recipe quickly became viral on social networks, popularized by numerous naturopath TikTok accounts. This is notably thanks to its simplicity and speed of preparation. Each of the ingredients plays a role. Garlic is a powerful antibacterial, ginger is a natural antiviral which reduces fever, turmeric is a wonderful expectorant which promotes the expulsion of secretions from the bronchi, lemon is rich in vitamin C and provides energy and honey soothes an irritated throat. As for black pepper, it is a 3-in-1 very appreciated in Ayurvedic medicine because it naturally strengthens the immune system thanks to its vitamin content, it reduces chest and nasal congestion and it maximizes the effects of turmeric.
The recipe is simple: mix two cloves of garlic, a piece of ginger root (2-3 cm), a piece of turmeric root (or a spoonful of turmeric powder), the juice of half a lemon, a good spoon of honey, a pinch of pepper and 20 cl of hot water (not boiling so as not to destroy the healing properties of the honey). These ingredients, once mixed, transform into a golden-colored beverage that the naturopath calls a “flu bomb”, literally a “curative anti-cold shot” which relieves the annoying symptoms of colds in 3 days tops.
Colds can be painful to bear but it is better to be patient and favor natural remedies or even paracetamol in case of headaches. Dangerous, vasoconstrictor drugs based on pseudoephedrine known to quickly unblock the nose have been placed on medical prescription by the Medicines Agency. If cold symptoms persist or worsen, consult a doctor.
