Ukraine is not alone. And so, while Russia bombs and Trump tries to isolate Europe and Zelensky, the Vatican moves. Thanks to the almoner, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, Pope Leo managed to send one hundred thousand cubes to the exhausted country which, when dissolved in a little water, become energetic chicken and vegetable soups. A “little caress” from the Pontiff, as the almoner defined it, arriving on the occasion of the feast of the Holy Family on Sunday 28 December. Because it is precisely by thinking of the families who, like that of Nazareth, “follow the painful path of exile in search of refuge”, experiencing “the dramatic condition of refugees, marked by fear, discomfort, uncertainty”, that the Pope wanted to get close and concretely show that “God always wants to be where man is in danger, where man suffers, where he runs away, where he experiences rejection and abandonment”. The cardinal also announced that, before Christmas, through almsgiving and nunciatures, Leone sent financial aid to various countries. In Ukraine, three more trucks had arrived on Christmas Eve with humanitarian aid sent by the Korean company Samyang Foods. Aid diverted to the war zones most affected by the bombings, “where there is no electricity, no water and no heating”.
