In the middle of the “65th anniversary tour”, Florent Pagny must urgently cancel concerts. Between the concern of his fans and the details of those around him, this sudden stop raises questions about his state of health since the announcement of his cancer in 2022.
While he was scheduled to perform at the Zénith in Toulouse on April 7 and at the Zénith in Nantes on April 10 and 11, 2026, Florent Pagny was forced to cancel his concerts at the last minute. If the concern was immediate, those close to the singer clarified that it was acute laryngitis which led to a complete loss of voice. Although it is not a priori a relapse of cancer, this loss of voice remains a stark reminder that his body remains vulnerable after years of heavy lung treatment.
It is through a sober and poignant video, published on Instagram on January 25, 2022, that Florent Pagny moves the hearts of his fans. Sitting in front of the camera, he announces that he cannot finish his 60th anniversary tour: “I have just been diagnosed with a lung tumor that cannot be operated on.” he shares. The diagnosis was made almost by “accident”, when he thought he was suffering from a simple “persistent cough”. A “smoker’s cough” as he called it. At first, he was not worried, putting it down to fatigue, the stage or a simple seasonal illness. He even declared later: “I thought it was bad bronchitis that we were going to treat with antibiotics“.
The diagnosis of lung cancer fell after a CT scan: the artist discovered a tumor measuring approximately 4 centimeters. It is the same cancer that killed the actress Isabelle Mergault on March 20, 2026. As soon as the diagnosis was made, Florent Pagny announced that he was entering a 6-month cycle of chemotherapy and X-rays (radiotherapy), while launching a call for resilience: “Me and my other half need to get into warrior mode“. This brutal attack phase was supplemented by an immunotherapy protocol to stabilize the disease.
In October 2022, the news is excellent: the tumor has melted. He reappears publicly, notably during a concert in support of Ukraine, with short hair but his voice intact. At the beginning of 2023, during a check-up, doctors discovered a lymph node recurrence. “I played with fire and I got burned“, he concedes in the show “Sept à Huit” on TF1. This “burn” mentioned by the artist refers to the premature cessation of his immunotherapy, a crucial basic treatment intended to educate his immune system to prevent any recurrence of the cancer, which he had neglected during a prolonged stay in Patagonia.
He urgently returns to Paris to resume treatment and understands that the fight is a long-term one. He manages to tour festivals during the summer of 2023, but appears more physically scarred. The artist then decides to withdraw from the media to devote himself to total convalescence. It was during this period that he radically changed his lifestyle. He settles into a strict routine with rigorous monitoring (a scan every 3 months), stopping tobacco, sugar and alcohol so as not to “feed” the cancer cells. In September 2024, he summarized in the Addiktion podcast hosted by Laurent Karila, having had three relapses of cancer and stopping immunotherapy: “We realized one day that it wasn’t working, there were relapses, we gave up.” At the end of 2024, the singer got back into shape and announced his return to the stage in January 2026 with “the 65th anniversary tour”.
This return is placed under a strict health bubble: to protect his still fragile immune system, the singer must renounce crowd baths and meetings with his fans before and after the concerts. “It was explained to me that if I wanted this tour to go well, I shouldn’t get cold and see too many people. Too many people are the people who want to see you before and those who want to see you after. So at 6:30 a.m. I go back to the dressing room and go to sleep. At 8 a.m. I wake up, I get ready and I go on stage. I don’t see anyone before and after. I keep all my energy up” he detailed in the show C à vous, on April 1, 2026.
And he continues to speak openly about his illness: “If my testimony can prevent others from making the stupid mistake of stopping their treatment midway as I did, then it will have served a purpose. (…) I no longer say I’m cured, I say I’m in control. It’s a stowaway (cancer, Editor’s note). It’s there, somewhere in the ship. The idea is no longer necessarily to throw him overboard at all costs, but to ensure that he never goes near the cockpit again.“, he illustrates in the same show. Florent Pagny now hopes to reunite with his audience as quickly as possible, but under strict health conditions due to his fragile immunity.
