This Thursday, April 2, is Autism Day. To support all autistic people and those around them, everyone is invited to wear blue.
World Autism Awareness Day is held every April 2. In 2026, this event takes on a particular dimension as France finalizes the objectives of its national strategy “Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders” (TND). According to the latest data from the High Authority of Health (HAS) and INSERM, autism spectrum disorders (ASD) affect approximately 1 in 100 people in France. This represents nearly 600,000 adults and around 100,000 young people under the age of 20. Each year, the number of births affected is estimated at 8,000. Launched in 2007 by the UN, this day aims to break stereotypes, promote the self-determination of autistic people and accelerate their inclusion in schools and businesses. On this occasion, each of us is invited to wear bluethe symbolic color of autism, during all day April 2. Concretely, how can you show your support? What are the actions and events in France? When is Autism Day in France?
Like everywhere in the world, it takes place on Thursday April 2, 2026. Proclaimed by the UN at the suggestion of Qatar, it mobilizes member states each year to transform society’s view of neurodiversity.
The Ministry responsible for Disabled People and national associations are encouraging citizen mobilization through the #TousEnBleu operation. Simple steps to participate:
- The social media challenge: Wear a blue item of clothing or accessory, take a photo of yourself and share it with the hashtags #TousEnBleu, #ChangeonsLaDonne and #Neurodiversité2026.
- The Blue Ribbon: Wear the symbolic ribbon, available from local structures and family associations.
- Digital filters: Adopt the “Autisme France” or “Collectif Autisme” profile frames on your social networks (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook).
- Symbolic lighting: At nightfall, place a blue light in your window or a blue heart decoration to mark your solidarity.
Why blue for Autism Day?
The color blue is not chosen at random to symbolize autism. It is a color that brings calm and comforttwo qualities that people with autism need to be as serene and confident as possible. Moreover, “this color symbolizes dreams and lifebecause she is soft and soothingand seems appreciated by autistic people who often experience sensory disorders”, specifies the Government on its website.

What are the actions for Autism Day?
In 2026, the focus is on cognitive accessibility and employment. On the evening of April 2, hundreds of town halls and emblematic monuments (such as the Eiffel Tower, the Hôtel de Ville in Lyon or the Cité de la Cité du Vin in Bordeaux) will light up in blue. Numerous online conferences are organized by CRAs (Autism Resource Centers) to provide information on early diagnosis in adults. “Courses Bleues” are organized in several academies (Nice, Besançon, Lille) to raise awareness among young people in schools.
