The “miracle” Zalone: he rediscovers his relationship with his daughter and conquers the box office. Irreverent, politically “incorrect”, with irony and lots of laughs, the comedy brought to the theater by the Apulian actor convinces audiences of different age groups, from North to South, with a takings record that exceeds, it hasn’t happened for 14 years, 7 million euros in takings in a single day.
And never mind if the critics had almost rejected it. Checco Zalone’s film, complete with its final moral, is popular. We like the story, we like the happy ending, we like the “normality” served on the afternoon of Christmas lunch. When, between a plate of tortellini in broth and a slice of panettone, you also look for good feelings.
Buone Camino, directed by Gennaro Nunziante and distributed by Medusa film, surpasses Zalone himself by grabbing 78.8 percent of the Christmas takings. In 2016, his Quo Vado, released on January 1st, had captured 65.6 percent of the overall market on that day, while in 2020 Tolo Tolo, also on the first day of the year, had reached 75.7 percent.
And if, before the release, in the presentation press conference Zalone wondered whether the new generations would be nailed to their seats for the entire hour and a half of the film’s duration, from today, or rather, from December 25th he has the answer. Yes. Even if we talk about the journey to Santiago de Compostela, the relationship between fathers and children, the search for the meaning of life between separated parents and new unions, the display of wealth, top models, yachts and the squandering of the sacrifices of the older generations. The Zalone who wins at the box office gives morals without being moralistic, shows the vices and virtues of our society and, between one laugh and another, also triggers a few emotional tears. Better than that…
