Maturity 2025. Most likely it will be remembered for the episodes of the students – at the moment four – who have decided to make a change of the orale, to protest, say, against a system that considers them numbers and that evaluates them with numbers. Belluno’s student also adds that “from the teachers there has never been the desire to discover the real me”. The reactions of the school world is ready. Antonello Giannellipresident of the National Association, defines the episodes with the word “exhibitionism” which does not take into account an examination, moreover, by the Constitution. In social networks, voices in favor alternate, which highlight the courage of the boys, and contrary voices, which appeal to the sense of respect for the rules that young people no longer have.
From my point of view this episode is a great opportunity to try to understand how young people are and how they relate to the adult world. Net of the personal motivations and the personality of these kids-who should not be known in order not to generalize and not use narcissistic excesses-I believe that, at least in part, this fact can talk about their unconscious attempt to want to transform the school into the nest-family, in the nest-Mamma. Not to be much judged, but understood and known, means growing in an extremely comfortable environment which, however, does not prepare for effort, resilience with respect to injustices, failures and contrary currents of life. On closer inspection that same school that the boys contest, so bad and bad, made them battaglieri, capable of feeling indignation in the face of something they consider unfair, to something they want to change. Perhaps the defects of the system, if they were there, allowed them to desire more? The limits of the system are welcome then. Always remember that it is the lack that generates desire, the push to change. The muffle of a comfortable school also in high school does not prepare identity, but fragility. The waste with the ideal is not alone and always something negative.
With this I don’t want to say that school should be like a sadistic hard life training! The judgment, in fact, should never be given coldly, but always accompanied by the word, that is, by the relationship with the teacher. Which for this must be extremely endowed with pedagogical skills as well as techniques. The school must also be humanizing and above all thanks to relationships and on this, in my opinion, the boys have focused the spotlight. I remember how I arrived, back in 1998, at the end of the high school exams. Five years of study “crazy and desperate”, in which, I remember him very well, I suffered and protested within me and with friends, for the voting system. I too have always lived badly what I saw as a detachment between teachers and life, between school and personal problems, between votes and value. That value I felt he had and that every 8 and 9 did not receive real recognition. Why? Because the relationship was missing. To teachers, according to me teenager, he didn’t care really know me. I think my feeling of that time was not, therefore, very different from the feeling of these guys. It is like a wanting to say: I exist, I have an imperfect and messed up life on my shoulders and none of you adults sees it.
This discrepancy between votes, exams, tests and real life is part of not only of the rules of the school game, but precisely of the thirst for recognition of the children. They gave this voice, and it is good that they do it. They are not exhibitionists, but interpellating, critics. They must keep their essence alive. The school, in this dialogue to which it is called, must remain adult and asymmetrical. Educational and never punitive. But always in relation. I find that the professors of the Commission, who still asked questions to the exam, at least to the boy from Padua, have shown The pedagogical face of the school: I listen to your protest, but I accompany you to respect the rules of the institution you are part of, so that the protest can receive containment and direction.
