According to aging specialists, it is the type of face that keeps its youth longer.
Not all faces age in the same way, it is a physiological fact. Some elderly people keep regular features and smooth skin for a long time, while others see their faces change early and wrinkles are increasing quickly. In facial morphology, there are three main shapes of face: the square face (wide jaw, angular lines, marked forehead), round face (soft lines, full cheeks, short chin) and oval face, often perceived as harmonious in its proportions. “The oval face is generally considered balanced, but the aesthetic criteria are evolving: today, the marked jaws are more valued”, explains the Dre Laurence Benouaiche, cosmetic surgeon.
The aging of the face results from the atrophy of the skin tissue, as well as that of fatty tissues, muscles and bones. “With age, there is a loss of volume at the level of facial support points – temples, cheekbones, chin – and overall relaxation”. Other factors are involved in aging such as genetics and sun exposure. “Mountain or sea professionals have a skin that ages much faster”. Lifestyle also plays a crucial role: unbalanced diet, disturbed sleep, chronic stress, tobacco or alcohol accelerate the signs of aging. In women, menopause represents a key step: “From the age of 50, they lose 30% of their collagen in 5 years. Result, their skin stretches like the meshes of a net that loosen and the relaxation is getting worse.”
However, some faces are doing better than others over time … and seem young longer. Which ones? According to the specialist, square faces with a well -defined structure are those that age the least quickly, in particular thanks to the projection of the chin which acts as a point of pillar. She also explains that in the round face which is already full, we perceive less the loss of volume, which constitutes a great cause of aging. However, there may be excess volume that accumulates at the bays.
“Ultimately, the oval face is the one that is most likely to be marked by aging, because it is more sensitive to weight variations and loss of volume. However, although it is severely aging at the level of the lower third party, it is quite harmonious because all the facilities of the face age in the same way”concludes our interlocutor.
