By wanting to do well, many people actually promote fear in their dog. A canine education specialist reveals the behavior that is better to adopt to have a doggie in his legs!

Having a dog (or any other animal) is like being a parent: we will necessarily make missteps. Sometimes, we are not even aware of it, because we do these gestures with all the possible benevolence! Except that by thinking of doing well for your doggie, we create a situation that will make the dog feel safe, will learn bad reflexes, will not understand what is expected of him, etc. The good news is that it is quite possible to realize that we made a mistake, then to adapt your behavior to rectify the shot. And for that, nothing like documenting or inquiring directly with specialists in canine education.

Thomas McCoubrey is one and, on Tiktok, he shares videos to educate his dog well. This educator, based in Northern Ireland, distills many advice, which is aimed at neophytes as well as more experienced. He regularly reveals clips in which he highlights the small errors that we make without knowing it.

In a recently shared video, Thomas McCoubrey is interested in human behavior that can strengthen fear in dogs. “The sad reality is that you probably make your nervous dog without realizing it”he explains. He then asked the members of his community to remember a time when they felt proud of them: “It is probably because you have overcome something you were afraid of.”

@McCoubreyk9Services The Sad Truth? Your Making your dog nervous without every realizing it. Think Back to Time You Were Proud of Yourself Job Interview Fitness Goal First Time Doing Something Scary You Felt Proud Because It was hard, and you go through it. But when Our Dogs Get Spoooked? We Rush in: “Its Okay! Its Okay!” What do they actually Learn? “The World is scary.” “I am in danger.” “I do need rescued.” Heres the Better Move: When its safe, let them figure it out. Encourages them. Reward The Bravery. Thats How Real Confidence is Built. #dogsoftiktok #dogtraining #dogtrainer #dogtok Original Sound – Thomas

And he questions: “So why, when our dogs are frightened, we rush to them and we say to them:” Everything is fine, everything is fine “, every time they are a little hesitant?”. According to Thomas McCoubrey, what it teaches the dog is that the world is scary, so that he will feel in danger and will always need to be reassured by his human.

So how do you warn that? For this educator, the best thing to do is encourage the dog to go see this thing that worries or questions him, and congratulate him and reward him for this. Be careful, as Thomas McCoubrey points out, it should only be done in situations that do not present danger, neither for the dog, nor for himself, nor for any other being that would be nearby. It is also advisable not to strengthen a fear of the dog. For example, if it is responsive to the noise of cars, it must be used to it gradually, and not start by going walking along a very busy track and where people roll quickly.
