Each August 15, Christians – and more particularly Catholics – celebrate the Assumption, a symbolic date. Here is six info to understand this religious holiday a little more.

Summary

L’Assumptioncelebrated every August 15, is an important date for Christians and Catholics, because it honors the Virgin Mary. That day, the faithful commemorate his elevation in heaven, both his body and his soul. But that day does not only stop at that for people of confession …

What is the assumption?

In religion, the assumption designates the fact that the mother of Jesus, Mary, was removed body and soul in heaven to enter into the life of God. In other words, it is the end of his earthly life. We then talk about the Glory of Mary with God. And, according to the site of the Catholic Church in France, “For Mary, the Assumption is the continuation of his participation in the life of Jesus.”

Why is the assumption a public holiday?

The Assumption is a holiday in France. This was decided when Louis XIII was in power. At that time, around 1610, the King of France hoped to have an heir to succeed him. After several unsuccessful tests, the wife of the monarch gave birth to the future King Louis XIV on September 5, 1938. This birth was then seen as a real miracle. King Louis XIII attributes it to the Virgin Mary, and assigned on August 15 as a celebration day to the Mother of Jesus and as a holiday. From, The Assumption is one of the 4 legally public holidays, with Christmas, the ascent and the feast of All Saints.

What is the origin of the assumption?

The 1erNovember 1950, thanks to Pope Pius XII, the assumption was proclaimed as One of the dogmas of the Catholic Church of which here is the definition: “The immaculate virgin, preserved by God from all attacks of the original fault, having accomplished the course of his earthly life, was raised body and soul to the glory of heaven, and exalted by the Lord as the queen of the universe, to be thus more entirely in conformity with her son, lord of the lords, victorious of sin and death.” It also happens that one wonders if the assumption of the Virgin Mary is in the Bible? The answer is that the Assumption is above all a Christian belief, which is not explicitly reported in the Bible.

What is the meaning of the Assumption Day?

From an etymological point of view, The term assumption comes from Latin “assumptio”himself derived from the word assume,, Who means “to take” and “remove”.
