To fully understand the school calendar, it should be remembered that mainland France is divided into three areas, in order to stagger the holidays and avoid too much crowd in tourist stations. Zone A includes in particular the academies of Besançon, Bordeaux, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon, Grenoble, Lyon, Limoges and Poitiers. Zone B concerns those of Aix-Marseille, Amiens, Caen, Lille, Nancy-Metz, Nantes, Nice, Orléans-Tours, Reims, Rennes, Rouen and Strasbourg. As for zone C, it brings together the academies of Créteil, Montpellier, Paris, Toulouse and Versailles.
