Sometimes too much information, sometimes not enough: difficult to navigate when you try to buy a quality garment. But this new detail on the label will change everything …
Some attribute this to an aura of mystery, others believe that it is a voluntary opacity: from the outside, the Modosphere seems inaccessible to the common one. It is especially on the side of the production of clothing that is difficult to obtain clear information. However, it is thanks to the latter that the consumer can judge the quality of what he buys. Where has the garment been produced? Under what conditions? Does he respect the well-being of workers as planetary well-being? Difficult to see clearly. But new information will now appear on the label and allow us to judge the quality of the room in a flash.
In force on October 1, 2025, this information, displayed in the form of a score, will first be not compulsory and deployed on a voluntary basis. In the press, our colleagues already call it the “Nutri-score of clothing”. Validated by the European Commission in May 2025, this note will assess the environmental impact of the part in question. Concretely, the higher the note, the more bad clothing is considered to be bad for the earth. No ceiling for the latter: it can go from zero to infinity. L’ “Ecobalysis” – Because it is his name – is in fact based on 16 criteria.
Water consumption used, carbon emissions, the use of fossil resources, production volumes (“Fast Fashion coefficient”), recycling potential, microplastic releases during washing, solidity … The analysis is done on the entire life cycle of the room; From his birth to his forfeiture (or to his next life).
If some of our colleagues remain skeptical about its clarity or real use for the consumer, this information should still help them buy better – not only for the planet, but also for their wallet. Indeed, the consumer will be able to compare the scoring of ecobalysis with the price of the desired clothing and judge, depending on their environmental impact, if it is really the amount that is displayed.
In the same way, ecobalysis will allow him to decide between two pieces on which he hesitates and which are at the same price. The score will also add traceability to a sector mainly made of opacity: just choosing whether or not to display EcoBalyse will tell the customer on the brand’s approach. Finally, he will force the labels to meet said criteria to have a good note: a real sorting in the competition – or kicks in the anthill.
