In teleworking, we are static and we are more easily cold.

Telework allows you to benefit from the comfort of home Sweet Home But staying static for many hours promotes the feeling of cold, even being in a heated interior. The first thing to do to be less cold is to dress accordingly, that is to say by practicing the “onion technique”. We superimpose the clothes of clothing by putting for example a t-shirt or a fine tank top, a thicker t-shirt with long sleeves or a shirt and a sweater, ideally in natural material (wool, mohair, cashmere, cotton …) more insulating than synthetic materials. For the bottom, cotton jogging pants, woolen cloth pants or jeans. If we really are very cold, we can put a tights below. It is better to put loose clothes than too tight to have hot, to let the air circulate and sweat escape.

To be less cold in teleworking, you have to eat foods that increase body temperature. “It is necessary to bring to the body certain specific nutrients: low -low -ig -free carbohydrates (such as rice or complete pasta, legumes, wholemeal bread), greases preferably vegetable (olive, nut oil, linen …). The spices (cinnamon, clove, pepper, paprika …) or ginger“explains the nutritionist Raphaël Gruman. And”Take a snack to have a regular contribution of calories during the day “. We put on drinks like tea, rooibos, herbal tea, coffee and why not hot chocolate to taste. “”It is possible to drink hot, but not too hot. Avoid sweating by drinking a drink that is too hot because the drops of sweat in contact with the external cold will cause the body cooling afterwards.“”

The cold promotes muscle tensions by pushing to adopt a curled up posture. To relax and relaunch traffic, physiotherapist Magali Bastos advises small stretches, self-massages and simple exercises. Shoulders, hands, feet and legs can be mobilized by quick and effective gestures, like lifting your arms, massage the arch of the plantar or make some squats. To warm your feet: we wear thick socks (silk or 100% wool ideally because thermoregulatory) and not too tight (so as not to block blood circulation and avoid having even colder). At the end of the day, you can take a foot bath with a handful of coarse salt, a few drops of lavender or eucalyptus essential oil. If we really are too cold, we think of the hot water bottle or thermal slippers.

Last tips to have in mind teleworking to improve your comfort during cooler seasons, install a carpet (or a cushion) under the workspace, cover your legs with a plaid, get up every hour and walk to increase the heart rate, ventilate your accommodation, at least 10 minutes a day, even when it is cold to evacuate moisture and renew the air. And practice regular physical activity to increase daily thermogenesis.

Thank you to Raphaël Gruman, nutritionist and Magali Bastos, physiotherapist and author of the book “My little routines: telework in all serenity”, at Editions Marabout.
