It’s a straightforward and rare interview, very rare, that Lolita Séchan, the daughter of singer Renaud, has just given. And she hides nothing about the state of health of her illustrious father.
While she published the work entitled Renaud, the book – co-produced with Erwan L’Eléouet – on October 10 at Editions de La Martinière, Lolita Séchan (45 years old) gave a truth interview to the newspaper The Parisian. And, like her father, there’s no question of talking too much: the alcohol, his remarriage to Cerise, their working relationship since she became his agent and manager… she says it all!
How is Renaud? “As you get older it gets more and more difficult.“
Victim a few months ago of a wave of mockery and virulent criticism on social networks after the broadcast of videos showing him sometimes haggard on stage and having great speech difficulties when singing, Renaud nevertheless seems to be doing as best as he can. “He stopped smoking and drinking. But he’s extreme, so he compensates with the sugar and the vaping. He needs to vibrate, he needs extreme behavior, and as he gets older it’s more and more difficult“, confides her daughter to Parisian.
The singer of the hits Mistral winner And Morgana from younow 73 years old, however, still needs daily help and, for this, he can count on his wife Cerise – with whom he lives in a house in Trentemoult, on the outskirts of Nantes – but also on “his childhood friend Jérôme, who is a doctor“just like on”Pierre and Bloodi, his guardian angels, who are essential.“Always motivated by music and love, Renaud seems to have left his demons behind him. And God knows he sometimes hit rock bottom…”At several critical moments, I was told about placing him under guardianship, but it is unthinkable to take away his freedom… even the freedom to kill himself.“, reveals Lolita.
Renaud entrusted his career to his daughter Lolita: “It’s up to the children to make the decisions“
The singer, also father of the discreet Malone – 19 years old, born from his past marriage to Romane Serda – therefore decided to entrust career management to his daughter Lolita. “I would never have considered doing that, it was a departure from the road for me. But like all artists, he was stolen, manipulated, pushed to do ugly things… Being a manager is the logical continuation of what I’ve been doing for twenty years (…) My philosophy is that as long as he’s alive, we do everything together. And the more we prepare things while people are alive, the better things go afterwards.“, she assures, evoking between the lines Renaud’s material and musical heritage.
And what about Cerise in the matter? “I think that an artist’s wife is not meant to be a manager. We are the same age and I am still more legitimate in talking about my father’s life and career. It’s up to Renaud’s children to make the artistic decisions of the future, it’s important“, adds Lolita.
