In recent years, social networks have been full of more or less surprising slimming tips. One of the latest trends is to mix lemon juice with a specific ingredient. The promise? Lose weight quickly and well!
On social networks, slimming tips are multiplying and attracting millions of Internet users looking for quick results. There you will find various advice: detox recipes, express sports challenges, fat-burning drinks or even unusual methods to curb hunger. While some videos can motivate you to move more or cook healthier, others are more of a viral trend than science. The latest one? A drink composed in particular of lemon juice and a secret ingredient, supposed to appeal to those who want to lose weight quickly. But, does it really work?
Rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, lemon is often highlighted in dietary rebalancing programs. Its tangy flavor stimulates saliva production and promotes digestion. Its low-calorie juice can also replace certain fattier or sweeter seasonings, which indirectly contributes to reducing daily energy intake. The current trend is to combine this tangy juice with a condiment renowned for its “detox” virtues and its richness in minerals. Very fashionable, pink Himalayan salt is appreciated for its pretty color and its trace element content. Some even claim that this duo would boost metabolism, eliminate toxins and therefore lose weight more quickly. Proponents of this method attribute several benefits to it. Lemon would boost digestion and promote fat burning, while pink salt, rich in minerals (magnesium, potassium, calcium), would help maintain good hydration. The combination would act as a digestive system cleanse. Lemon water, slightly salty, even reduces morning cravings.
But be careful: despite its “healthy” image, pink salt remains… salt. In excess, it presents the same risks as classic salt. In the online magazine TodayNatalie Rizzo, registered dietitian explains that“eTogether, these ingredients do not make for a super-powerful detox or fat-burning drink. Their purported benefits are not supported by any credible scientific evidence.” According to her, what matters above all are overall habits: a balanced diet, rich in fiber, quality proteins and good fats, combined with regular physical activity.
Although the combination of lemon juice and pink salt can enhance the taste of your dishes or drinks, it is not a miracle solution for losing weight. For lasting results, nothing replaces a varied diet and regular activity.
